Welcome to Jacqueline's fundraising page!
This spring, I have an amazing opportunity to walk in Steps for Life - Walking for Families of Workplace Tragedy and raise money for Threads of Life.
My first full-time job was a 1-year contract dealing with injured workers and compensation claims for a construction company. My knowledge about workplace health & safety was very minimal at the time and I had no idea that taking that job would lead me to a career in health & safety.
My first week on the job, a worker's fell and landed on a piece of machinery below, fracturing his pelvis. Visiting the worker in the hospital, meeting his family, and seeing the lasting effects of his injury for years to come solidified my interest in working to eliminate workplace injuries.
Along with thousands of participants across Canada, I will be fundraising to provide programs and services for families who have suffered as a result of a workplace tragedy; raising awareness in our community about the devastating ripple effects of each workplace tragedy; and promoting a cultural shift to improve health and safety in the workplace so that others will not experience a workplace fatality, traumatic life-altering injury, or occupational disease.
