Welcome to Ann's personal "Remembering Evan" page, Walk-Sunday, May 6
We all deserve to come home from work safely each day. Sadly, too many families know the reality of life after a workplace tragedy, including ours.
Our son, Evan, went to work on Sept. 10, 2011 and did not come home from work that day. He was killed at work. He was 25 years old. Evan was working as an apprentice PowerLine Technician in Alberta when the 60 feet transmission pole he was working on collapsed while he was harnessed to it, killing him. Charges were laid against the employer by Alberta Justice. Three years later on Sept. 2, 2014, the employer pleaded guilty and was fined $325,000. These funds went to the Ministry of Labour to help victims of crime/tragedy.
In the blink of an eye, our son's life disappeared and our lives changed forever. We would not want this tragedy to happen to another family. Unfortunately, a lot still has to be done to eliminate workplace tragedies.
Steps for Life is an annual fundraiser to support the Association for Workplace Tragedy Family Support – known as Threads of Life. On Sunday, May 6, we will be participating in the Hamilton Steps for Life 5K walk/run in memory of our dear son, Evan.
The location of the fundraising and awareness walk is in Hamilton at The Lakeview, 180 Van Wagner's Beach.
The funds we raise help provide a network of support for Canadian families living with the outcome of a life-altering workplace injury, illness or death.
It’s easy for you to make a difference too - walk with me by joining my team or click the button to make a donation.
I greatly appreciate your support and thank you for stepping up for workplace safety!
