Running for Rico

On Friday, August 19, 2005 my Dad, Rico Iannucci was killed in a Workplace Fatality. He was 65 years old and could have retired but loved working so much that didn't want to. Sadly his passion brought him to his death.
Dad was working on a job site on Parliament Hill restoring the Peace Tower, when the backhoe he was operating suddenly engaged and sent Dad and the Backhoe over the cliff 200 meters. He was pronounced dead on scene and this was all before 7:00am.
Since 2007 I have been working with Threads of Life in the hopes of raising awareness for Workplace safety. I have been running the Ottawa Marathon in my Dad's name while raising money for Threads of Life. To date I have raised over $35,000 and hope to make my goal of $2500.00 this year. As we are in different times this year and can't gather for fundraisers, I am trying something different. When you donate online your name will be entered into a draw and we will pick names every couple of weeks to win prizes.
This year I will be runnning a solo virtual marathon, on Saturday, April 25th where I will be starting and ending from my home to complete my 42.2km run. I will also participating in the Virtual Voyageur Challenge on Race weekend in May which is the 5km, the 10km and the Half Marathon, that I will be completing all in the same day.
I will be running in memory of my father Rico Iannucci. I really hope that together we can get one step closer to ending these workplace fatalies. No one should go to work to die, we all have the right to return home to loved ones.
I thank you all in advance for your continued support.
